  • Using Mobile Technology for Your Payments

    Partner 12:00 am on February 20, 2009 | 1 Permalink | Reply

We now use our mobile phones for everything that we do. We talk on them, we text message, we email, take pictures, record videos, send those pictures and videos in messages, play games, and so much more. But now you can use mobile technology to make bill payments. That is how advanced this system has become.

But how secure is this system? Is it something that you really want to do? Many individuals are not secure with this sort of system and others are. That is why it is good to evaluate the situation to see if this is something you would like to do.

    Security
Many individuals have mobile phone carriers that enable them to make their mobile phone payment right from their phone. Their payment account information is already in the system, so all they have to do is push a button and their payment is made. They then don’t have to worry about their payment again until next month.

But due to the fact that the Internet has become available on mobile phones, there are people wondering if they can make their other payments over their phone just like they do with their personal computers. Is it as secure?

Well, since mobile Internet is being phased out because mobile phones can access the same Internet that personal computers access, it is fair to say that it is just as safe. If you are accessing a secure site over your phone, you should have no issues making your payment. The only problem that you may encounter is the fact that you have to have a solid connection when you carry out your transaction. This will not compromise your security, but could result in you actually making a payment twice if you’re not sure it went through the first time. This can result in you having to consult with the company you made a payment to and telling them that you had a connection issue that resulted in a double payment.

    Conveniences and issues
It is very convenient to be able to make payments over your mobile phone, but there are still some phones that do not support the more advanced Internet access. Because of this, you may not be able to make your payments over your mobile phone, especially since thee are some websites that are not mobile enabled. They won’t display right or will not be able to give you the option to pay at all. In this case, you would be better off making a phone call to make your payment.

But the convenience of it cannot be denied for the fact that you can be sitting on a bus, on a subway, in a cab, standing in a long line at a department store, or even at a sporting event and pay your bills. You don’t have to wait until you get home in order to make your payment. You can do it right then and there without any issues. Just make sure you have an adequate connection to ensure that you can process the payment smoothly.

    Will you do it?
With this said, will you do it? Will you make your bill payments over your mobile phone? If you are in a situation where you need to make a payment right now, this may be a viable solution. This is especially true if it is the difference between you getting a very high late fee or not getting a very high late fee. If it is a credit card payment, it could be the difference between having to pay a higher interest rate because of a late payment and not having to pay a high interest rate. That is the convenience of making payments using your mobile phone.

  • History of POS Equipment

Without POS equipment, many of the monetary transactions that take place would be more difficult to carry out. The difficulty of not having something in place to carry out a transaction was discovered in the 1870s in a Dayton, Ohio saloon. A man by the name of James Ritty had a very successful business in this saloon. As a matter of fact, he was considered an incredible dealer in cigars, pure wines, and whiskies. But just like everyone else, he had a problem. The problem was dishonest employees stealing money from the customers instead of depositing it the way that they were supposed to.

    A breakthrough
When Ritty was on a trip to Europe, he was mesmerized by a counter that counted the number of revolutions made by the ship’s propeller. This was done for maintenance purposes. When he returned to Dayton, he got together with his brother and worked on an idea of creating a device that would keep track of monetary transactions in order to ward off the dishonesty. In 1879, they had the first cash register in operation. They called it ‘Ritty’s Incorruptable Cashier.’

Soon after, the Ritty brothers opened up a factory in Dayton where they could manufacture these cash registers and sell them to other businesses to help them with their dishonesty issues. It was several years later that Jacob H. Eckert bought the Rittys’ business and created the National Manufacturing Company in 1881. Later on, John Patterson bought Eckert’s company and continued making improvements to the cash register. Before long, the cash register used rolls of paper to keep track of transactions and offer receipts.

    Modern day systems
Modern day systems are much different than those systems developed in the 1800s and are even much different than the systems used a decade ago.

In the 1970s, the first computer-driven cash register was developed. This was done for larger business environments. Each register was connected to a mainframe computer that would track the transactions of each register. The mainframe could also control certain registers.

In the late 1980s, cash registers started operating off of PC technology, which meant a lot of the functions on your basic PC could be found on a cash register. Not like today’s, though. Today, you will find cash registers with LCD screens and touch screens. The customer can see everything that is occurring on the screen to ensure the accuracy of the items that they have purchased.

Along with these cash registers came the credit card machine. Just in the last two decades have credit card processing machines made an impact. Even in the last decade, there were still businesses scanning the card information through a small handheld carbon copying device. When the card was placed on carbon paper, the card would be swiped through this device and the card copied onto the paper. The consumer would then sign and the merchant could charge to the card by contacting the credit card company.

Nowadays, it is much faster in that the card is swiped through a machine and communication with the credit card company is instant. The proper machinery is either set up as a standalone device at a cash register for the customer to swipe themselves or the device is built into the cash register for the cashier to swipe. The cashier can also swipe through a small standalone device. So now, businesses are able to take credit cards, cash, and checks. This expands their business possibilities tremendously.

So if you need some POS equipment to help your business grow, it is available. You can find the perfect cash register and the perfect credit card machine company to find a low fee machine that will help you to carry out your transactions.

  • Exploding Your Profits With Audio Products

If in your business you offer some kind of service, you understand as much as I know that the sky is blue, that at times it is exhausting. Often times because dealing with customers can be a bit challenging, other times because the nature of your business requires too much physical interaction, too much thinking and brainstorming, too much time commitment, or simply because there are only so many hours in a day that you can handle.

Let’s face it, as much as you love to do what you do, at some point you’ll want to slow down, give it a hault. The problem with that scenario is that if it is all that you do, chances are your income will also come to an abrupt hault. Now, we wouldn’t want that to happen, would we?! So here’s the good news… it doesn’t need to happen, and it won’t, if you create information products.

Been there, done that, now I can show you how to do it too!

Honestly, that should be your motto! You’ve spent hours perfecting your skills, learning new traits, caring for your success and the profitability of your business. You know the downfalls, you know where it hurts for most people, you’ve been doing this longer than most people you know, you’ve learned the shortcuts. You, can make it happen.

This is no pep talk. This is reality kicking in. I want you to understand that your experiences and your knowledge have value. Value that can be converted among several things… into money. Sure, you can take your experiences and work harder, acquire even more knowledge, become stronger and better and work even harder, and make more money that way until you exhaust yourself. Or you can continue to do what you do, but also compile your knowledge and package it into products, and make money teaching others who want to be like you and do what you do, what you have learned through out the years.

Before enlightening others, you must motivate yourself.

Unfortunately it doesn’t take much before we give up on something, I believe that’s just human nature. Well now that you know that, make sure that you remain hopeful and expectant of your success at all times, even when for a split second it seems like it’s unachievable. We all have things that drive us, some stronger and harder than others, but from experience I’ve learned that in business money can be a strong driving force. It might not be the only one (it shouldn’t be anyway), but it can quickly put you back on track and remind you of your reasons for doing this. So it is my objective to ensure that you understand that in business one must make money… quickly. Not necessarily easily, mind you, but constantly and often.

People are extremely lazy, that’s a fact. The average person reads only one book a year, that’s another fact.

We live in a microwave society where everyone wants things done in three minutes or less. That’s wonderful news for you! People are willing to consume information that will make them better at what they do, if you can supply them with such information when they demand it, and in a format that won’t get in the way of their lazy self’s. That is why I recommend creating an audio product. There’s no reading involved, and they can pop it in their car and listen to it on their way to work.

Resist your subconscious desire to suffer and take the easy route.

Embrace the microwave school of thought for just a second and create your first product in three minutes or less! Well, it won’t be a really good product if you do it in three minutes, but that sentence wouldn’t have been as impactful if I wrote sixty minutes instead! Truth is that even if it takes a few days to create a phenomenal product that can change peoples lives, it will certainly change yours forever. Start with audio because it’s easy. Grab a recorder, sit in front of a computer with a microphone and start talking, start… teaching! Sure, a book gives you instant credibility, but get started with an audio product and progress from there. Remember that you need to remain in gear, developing a product quickly will keep you motivated to focus on greater and bigger things.

Do you get where I’m going with this? I want you to get started, I want you to taste it so that you can long for more. Desire makes people take action, yourself included. So carefully outline your first product, grab a recorder and start talking, package that, and sell it. That’s all it takes! There’s no magic, no hidden secrets. Do it well. Don’t get me wrong, I want you to do it quickly, I don’t want you to do it badly. Put out a phenomenal product in the market and instill desire in people for more. Give them more, and more, and more! Get it? Duplicate yourself via products and make money teaching, so that one day you can give your services a rest, but not your income.

  • The Benefits of Networking

    Partner 12:00 am on January 28, 2009 | 0 Permalink | Reply

If you want to make contacts in the world of business, you have to be willing to network. This means getting out there and making yourself known. At the same time you need to learn about what others have to offer. That way you can contact them down the road when you need to develop some type of business relationship with them. Of course it needs to be a two way street because those contacts will not be happy if you are only involved for your own personal benefit.

With effective networking in place you can definitely give your business more credibility. For example if you have links on a site for a business that has an excellent reputation consumers will be more confident to buy from you. Therefore you need to be careful who you allow to place links on your own site. It is best if they have similar ethics and goals as your own business. You want them to be a type of business that will appeal to your same target market too. However, be careful that they are not directly going to be your competition because that can take money out of your own pocket and place it into theirs.

It is often more convenient to network online than it is in person. This is because you can be exposed to volumes of people at any time of the day or the night. You also do not have to worry about being nervous or what you look like as you would if you were in person. There are plenty of places online where networking can take place too. They include forums and discussion groups. There are also plenty of social networking sites and chat rooms you can visit. There are plenty of them out there so you will not have any trouble finding the right contacts.

From the comfort of your home or office you can decide who you wish to interact with. You also can take your time answering so that you are not on the spot. How many times have you tried to interact professionally in person and got flustered because all eyes were on you? As a result something you do not want to say comes out? When you are networking online you can eliminate the occurrence of such regretful situations.

Of course you may later on decide that you want to talk one on one with certain individuals that you have met from such networking resources. That is perfectly understandable and you can agree to talk on the phone, via email, or even with instant messaging. Should they reside close to you then perhaps a face to face business meeting can be set up. There are many ways to communicate so do what works best for everyone involved.

While networking can definitely help you to promote your business, you need to go about it in the right way. Make sure you read the rules and policies on the various resources you use to communicate with others. That way you do not inadvertently cross the lines they have established. It is going to take time and effort to make good contacts too, so commit the time to do so. Be very honest with your posts though because you want people so see you for what you really are.

  • A Fourth-Generation Slugfest: Can WiMAX Triumph Over Its Competitors?

    Partner 12:00 am on January 9, 2009 | 0 Permalink | Reply

Now that Sprint’s long-awaited Xohm service has launched in Baltimore to mostly positive reviews, researchers, bloggers, and journalists are beginning to place their bets on the upcoming battle between WiMAX and long term evolution (LTE), its toughest challenger. Researchers at In-Stat have struck the first blow for WiMAX, concluding in a new report that WiMAX is likely to outpace LTE over the next few years, though both technologies are still years away from full implementation.

In-Stat argues that because LTE will not be ready for at least another year or two, the timing of network roll-outs favors WiMAX technology. But CNETs Marguerite Reardon is skeptical, as she draws a comparison between Sprints Xohm roll-out and the recent failed efforts by EarthLink to develop municipal Wi-Fi networks. She argues that Sprints business model may be doomed to fail because it pits WiMAX against existing 3G data services and cheaper, more consistent broadband options such as Verizon DSL.

In the absence of financial incentives and a greater variety of WiMAX-ready devices, Reardon predicts that Xohm will face a tough battle for consumers not necessarily against LTE, but against HSPA products offered by competitors.

However, while Sprints WiMAX network in Baltimore may not be as consistent as existing broadband services for now, at least it still offers stronger, faster, and more consistent connections than EarthLink Wi-Fi project, which depended on countless access points, each with a limited reach. WiMAX offers the freedom of municipal Wi-Fi, but with far less hassle so the real goal for Sprint is to convince consumers that its service will make their lives easier, liberate them from coffee shops, and save them the trouble of dealing with routers and modems.

Their inability to pull this off is by no means a foregone conclusion. Municipal Wi-Fi, after all, is still an attractive concept in theory, if not in practice. And while its true that WiMAX-ready mobile devices and laptops are currently few in number, we can doubtlessly expect to see more of these devices entering the market if the launch of Xohm proves to be successful in the long run.

Reardon doesn’t mention LTE directly, but she does inject a bit of unpleasant reality into the WiMAX vs. LTE debate by pointing out the gloomy state of the economy, and in doing so, she raises an important question: what if delays in WiMAX roll-outs give LTE technology time to catch up? Phil Skeffington, an associate with UK-based consultancy Mott MacDonald Schema, doesnt see a problem.

In fact, if Skeffington is right, the battle between WiMAX and LTE may even result in a draw. Skeffington believes that WiMAX and LTE are complementary technologies, with LTE poised to become the preferred technology for mobile handsets, and WiMAX set to corner the market of laptop users because of its superior bandwidth capabilities. Because demand from laptop users is higher right now, WiMAX is still likely to hold on to its early lead.

Its ability to emerge from the fight unscathed depends on Sprints ability to attract consumers, to create demand for devices, and to convince manufacturers and investors to meet that demand. Fortunately for backers of WiMAX, there is plenty of cause for optimism.

  • Why You Should Use Social Networking to Promote Your Business

    Partner 12:00 am on January 3, 2009 | 1 Permalink | Reply

Why do businesses use social networking?

The internet is shifting from just an information gathering tool to a social participation arena with information at its core. Because of this, taking advantage of social networking can be an important part of your business marketing strategy.

Social networking has plenty of business benefits, but let’s break it down to four main areas. Understanding these benefits will help you shape an effective approach to your own social networking efforts:

Establishing business connections/joint ventures: Because a lot of businesses are using social networking opportunities, there is no shortage of business owners to connect with. This is your opportunity to establish mutually beneficial relationships with other business owners who complement your products or services. Connect, share ideas, and form a profitable joint venture. Do not limit yourself. Be creative. It will be worth the effort.

Getting new readers/subscribers: Social networking generally requires more than subtlety than just blasting out your sales page link. People don’t participate in social networks to get a sales pitch. They do it to share information and opinions, build friendships, have fun, and be social. Be yourself! Share ideas, be helpful, give value. These things will build trust and your reputation. That trust can later lead to sales.

It’s easier to attract attention and gain a faithful following in social networks by sharing your content – your blog, videos, etc. Once you get their attention, this starts the marketing process by pre-selling your readers and eventually turning them into customers.

If you approach social networking as a direct selling medium, you may see a few sales here and there, but soon people will tire of your sales pitches. Use careful judgement here. It’s ok to announce new products, posts, etc., but don’t let that be all you talk about. Everyone on the internet is looking for answers and solution to a problem. Be the resource that everyone looks to.

Create transparency and connection: This is your opportunity for a more personal connection with your existing readers/customers, as well as the new ones you acquire along the way. Many of your readers and customers are most likely already using social networks. Having you join them on a more personal level allows your readers to see you in a different light. When your readers trust you, they’re more likely to buy from you and spread the word about you.

Word of mouth: Everything we’ve talked about so far culminates in one of the biggest benefits of social networking – and that is word of mouth. Having people talk about you is better than any advertising you can buy. Word travels quickly, and the benefits of a recommendation over a sales pitch are invaluable.

Clearly, social networking can be very beneficial for your business. Give it a try!

  • How To Conduct A Successful Teleseminar

    Partner 12:00 am on December 18, 2008 | 0 Permalink | Reply

Teleseminars are a great way for business coaches, consultants, company directors and many other professionals to engage a group of people very effectively with minimum cost. So, why aren’t more people conducting them? Part of the problem may be that many people believe that they are difficult to organize and costly to host, but this is very far from the reality.

Teleseminars are an excellent way to transmit your message, increase your credibility and make your mark as an expert in your field. Many people already successfully conduct regular teleseminars to audiences all over the world and some make good money from it. So how do you conduct your own teleseminar?

A teleseminar is a meeting between participants in different locations that occurs over the phone. All those on the call can participate in the conversation just as if they were in attendance at a seminar. If you use video conferencing you will also be able to transmit video via the internet through a video camera.

The great thing about teleconferencing is that it knows no boundaries. Whether you live in the US, Russia, UK or Australia, if you have access to a telephone you can conduct or participate in a teleseminar.

It’s always best if you can designate one person to set things up. That person will be responsible for informing participants of the time and date of the teleseminar. This can be done by calling, email or through a website. That person should also be the person that initiates the calls to assemble everyone on the day of the seminar.

The great thing about teleseminars is the lack of equipment required. Services like Sykpe or Ozonelite will let you do it for free using their software, although it is not always suitable for professional calls. In more complex setups where there may be satellite connections or audiovisual connections, you may require a specialist service.

Your need to have a well thought out agenda that stays focused and on topic. It’s always nice to give your participants a bit of a briefing before the teleseminar starts so participants know what they can expect.

Make sure you speak clearly and let avoid unnecessary pauses or long periods of silence. Is there an order of speaking? Will the call open to questions at any point? Let participants know what is expected of them. Remember this may be a new experience for them, so don’t assume they are experienced users.

As the moderator you should lead the teleseminar, which means you’ll control the flow of the conversations, identify any guest speakers you might have, and open and close the teleconference. It’s your job to ensure things run smoothly and on time.

A teleseminar is one of the most cost effective methods of bringing a group together without the need for travel and accommodation. It’s a convenient, cost effective tool that has great potential for reducing costs and reaching broader audiences.

Peter Bennett is CEO of Ozone Conferencing Limited. This article was prepared for small businesses wanting to know more about audio conferencing. For more details about teleseminars please visit ourozoneconferencing.

  • Places To Consider When Choosing An Essex Venue

    Partner 12:00 am on December 18, 2008 | 0 Permalink | Reply

The county of Essex in the south east of England is one of the most beautiful and popular in the country. It is made up of several local areas and includes some of the most exciting cities in the UK including Colchester, Saffron Waldon and Southend.

It benefits from its proximity to London but due to its landscape and surroundings it has a very different feel to the capital city. There area many benefits to hosting events in Essex and because it covers such a wide area and is so diverse there are many options to choose from when looking for an Essex venue.

Regardless of whether you have visited Essex before, it always has something to offer and is a constant surprise. Essex is one of the few areas in England that is close to London and therefore easy to get to via road or rail, while at the same time offering something completely different from the busy city

It is therefore ideal as a place to do business or organise events from. The only problem you might face is the number of great locations in the county and which Essex venue to choose.

Because there is such a wealth of Essex venues you are guaranteed to find a venue that will meet your Expectations and needs, regardless of how obscure those needs might be. You will obviously be taking into account factors like location, number of people involved and the duration of your event.

No matter what these are there will be something in Essex to suite you. The benefit of considering Essex as a place to stage an event is that you’ll have so may great places to consider.

Colchester claims to be the oldest recorded town in England and is therefore steeped in history. The castle still stands in the centre of the town and there are signs of the Roman past throughout the city. Recently there has been a lot of money invested in the town and a huge redevelopment project has taken place.

As a result the town is now being looked at as a good place to situate a business. The redevelopment has also seen new buildings appear throughout the surrounding area adding to the choice of Essex venues that can accommodate conferences and events in the region.

Saffron Walden is another of the places in Essex that can trace its history back hundreds of years. It has the largest parish church in Essex and is also home to the ruins of a 12th century castle. For something unusual to visit in Saffron Walden there is the turf maze. It’s the largest in England and can be traced back as far as 1699. Saffron Walden is situated in one of the most attractive areas of Essex.

Essex also has a coast line that covers a beautiful area of the east coast. Clacton-on-Sea is situated on this coastline and offers a great location for staging events. It has a direct rail link to London Liverpool Street and has a bustling shopping centre.

The size of the event you wish to host will have a large bearing on your choice of Essex venue. It goes without saying that if you want a delegation of two thousand then you need to find a venue that will be large enough to accommodate them. If you were to take them to a small conference suite then it simply wouldn’t work.

Likewise if you are putting together a smaller meeting you’ll need a smaller venue that will not overpower the meeting and lend itself to a smaller gathering. Essex can offer venues of all sizes. By explaining your situation to the venue manager it is likely that they will be able to advise you as to which section of a venue might suit you.

Dominic Donaldson is an expert in the hospitality industry.

  • Ways Networking Will Benefit Your Online Home Business

    Partner 12:00 am on December 12, 2008 | 0 Permalink | Reply

Due to the fact that the internet makes it easy to build an online home business we sometimes forget about the little things that really matter, like communicating or networking on a personal level with those who visit our websites.

Let’s have a look at a few of the opportunities that you have to interact on a personal level with your website visitors and customers.

As Blogs are so popular you will find most people do have one but they fail to utilize them fully. For example are you inviting your readers to leave comments?

This is a popular internet marketing method so it is common practice to visit and leave comments on blogs. Have you ever taken the time to email those who post comments and thank them for their post or offer assistance to a query about your home business online?

This very often opens the doors for further communication as many people are often really surprised and touched to receive a personal email as they are so used to impersonal auto-responder messages.

Usually whenever anyone joins your online home business or purchases a product from you, you will be notified of their email address. By sending a thank you or welcome email gives you the opportunity to open up the communication channels and the exchange of ideas could be extremely valuable.

Come out from your website and stop hiding behind your auto-responder and put the “You” back into doing business online. It will have a huge impact on your home business.

By opening up these channels of communication you will be surprised at the value and benefits that you can provide each other. Just a simple email from a post on your blog could create a lucrative business relationship.

How frustrated do you get when you send an email and never receive a response? Replying to emails you receive, no matter how insignificant they may seem, is just common courtesy and certainly something that should never be overlooked.

If you invite people to email you from your website, an advert or an auto-responder email then at least take a few minutes to write a decent reply to them. Don’t put you reputation at risk by writing short and abrupt emails. Where this simple task could lead you, you will never know.

A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section on your website will really help visitors, however, they may email you for more online home business information and this is where you need to offer honest advice and respond to the best of your ability.

Networking could certainly benefit your online home business in the future if you implement these ideas on how to communicate and network with your website visitors.
